Interposed/interstitial Layers is a solution to the problem of adhesive removal and component speration at a product's end-of-life. Removing adhesive residue prior to recycling is time-consuming, and if left unchecked, can cause contamination, and subsequently worsened material properties for a new batch of recycled material.
A thin coating of the interstitial layer solution is sprayed on each component before afhesive or silicon bonding. Upon heating and (optionally) vibration, the layer degrades, allowing shear forces to cleanly seperate the adhesive/bonding agent from the components.
